Top 10 reasons why we love Gloria Estefan!

As you all know Terra on Tour has been following Gloria Estefan on her last South American adventure. It’s a bittersweet moment and on our special page this legendary dama is sharing her most intimate moments with us and YOU!

Given the circumstances we decided to make a list of why we love Gloria so much! It was hard to choose 10 reasons alone, but we’d thought we’d let you share with us.

Why do YOU LOVE HER?

  1. She’s Cubana!
  2. She’s a fighter. Gloria survived a terrible bus crash and thought she’d never walk again but look at her now!
  3. She’s humble: If you were to see her on the street Gloria would shake your hand and talk to you. Fame has not gone to her head.
  4. She’s a family woman: Gloria always puts her family first and she’s the best example of our Latin family values… sticking together no matter what.
  5. She cares about others: In her interview with us Gloria stated she wants to see a free Cuba. She has not forgotten where she comes from!
  6. She’s multitalented: We all remember seeing her on Music of the Heart, but did you know she has also written two children’s books?
  7. She’s cool without being inappropriate. Gloria is picara but she’s not twirling around in her underwear, even when she collaborated with N’Sync in the song “Music of my Heart” she kept it slo’ mo’.
  8. Her kids are awesome. Her daughter, Emilie Marie, is currently touring with her and she’s a pretty amazing musician, did we mention she’s just 14 years old who plays guitar, drums and more? And let’s not forger her son Nayib who’s a pretty cool actor!
  9. Our parents love her. We grew up listening to her, how can we not?
  10. Because of Conga!

Video: Top 5 Gloria Estefan ballads
There's no doubt that Gloria Estefan can do it all. She can make you get up and move your feet with her dancey tunes and pull your heartstrings and make you want to sob like a baby with her soft jams. Check out our top favorite Gloria Estefan ballads and you'll see what we mean.

"Here We Are" (1989)

This song gives us goosebumps! and who can resist classic 80's hair
Gloria? Not us.

"Coming Out of the Dark" (1991)

Talk about persevering! This tear-jerking performance of Gloria's hit marked her comeback after suffering a severe spinal injury the year before while on tour.

"Con Los Años Que Me Quedan" (1993)

Gloria and Emilio are the quitenssential power couple and this song cements that in stone!

"Reach" (1996)

Sometimes she kills us with some corta venas (see the video below) but sometimes her slower songs are so inspirational the become the theme to the '96 Summer Olympics.

"Como Me Duele Perderte" (2000)

This corta venas bachata is an anthem for the heartbroken.

Video: Top 5 Gloria Estefan dance jams

Fact: Gloria Estefan has dedicated much of her 20 plus years in music to getting buns on a dancefloor. Be it shaking it to 80's Latin-tinged pop smashes or straight up Cuban danzón hits, our very own Queen of pop has never failed.

So get on your feet (or at least chair dance a little) for our top 5 Gloria Estefan  dance jams, we are sure to encourage major fancy footwork on her tour of Latin America.

"Conga" (1985)

This is the single that launched Mrs. Estefan into international superstardom! We like to consider this one Gloria's first successful attempt to get the rhythmically impaired on the dance floor without shame.

"Rhythm is Gonna Get You" (1987)

Oh, Gloria, the rhythm had us a "OH-EH, OH-EH!"

"Get On Your Feet" (1989)

 This track's optimism is irresistible!

"Mi Tierra" (1993)

Gloria is always best in her natural element: pure, classic tropical rhythms. This duet with Marc Anthony live is tops.

 "Oye" (1998)

BOOM! BOOM! BOOMING sexy sounds from La Estefan and the Miami Sound Machine! The percussion is so tight it makes play air drums/timbales. The kicker is her outfit in this performance = the sartorial equivalent of this song...you know, for the 90s and all.

"No Llores" (2007)

Estefan goes back to her roots with this danzón track. Points for rounding out the Latin power with guitarists Santana and José Feliciano  as well as Sheila E. on timbales on this song, too cool.

What do you guys think of our picks? Got your own Top 5 you want to share? Tell us in the comments!
